Julio Reyes (PerĂº): Establishing conservation and science resources including books, websites and teaching pamphlets about small Peruvian cetaceans.
Bio:
Born in Lima, Peru, Julio Reyes is the first Peruvian biologist to develop research on dolphins, porpoises and other small cetaceans in his country. Julio began his cetacean research in 1983 after obtaining a Licentiate in Biology degree at the Ricardo Palma University of Lima. He has several papers published in scientific journals, including a paper describing a new whale species, Mesoplodon peruvianus (Reyes, Mead and Van Waerebeek, 1991). Currently, Julio is a member of the IUCN/SSC Cetacean Specialist Group and a researcher at Areas Costeras y Recursos Marinos (ACOREMA), a private Peruvian organization focused on the research and conservation of threatened marine species.
